Do you manage your mind well??!

Since its evolution, it is debated whether management is an Art or is it Science… If you were to take my opinion, I’d say it does not matter to me! Today, business management has become the hottest career option. Engineers, doctors, lawyers, everybody wants be an MBA!! It seems to have become as vital as primary education for the corporate jobs! And in this MBA-in-your-fav-field-era, talking about mind management is like launching a new political party in the already dense Indian democracy! Mind management.., sounds philosophical right?? It is not, read on!

It is proved beyond doubt that management techniques have revolutionized the whole world. When we talk of management, corporate bodies, business concerns, institutions, etc come to our mind. Profit and productivity are the two main gains of management. So management is thought to be fundamentally associated with material achievement. Whether it is time/business/man/stress management, all are directed towards boosting productivity and enhancing material prosperity.

But the Philip Kotlers, Peter Druckers, Michael Porters, in short the management gurus, have missed to take note a very important type of management, which has been crystallizing through ages- mind management. The basic difference between other types of management and mind management lies in the fact that the other types of mgmt aim at achieving something identifiable with material gains, while mind mgmt is both a means and end in itself. Mind mgmt is to transform man by changing his thinking pattern positively. A real change happens only when he starts thinking in a different way!

There have been innumerable mind managers in the world. They have been born in every society in all ages. Lord Krishna, Swami Vivekananda, Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, Oscar Wilde, Sigmund Freud and the list goes on! I know this is for the first time that you are viewing these people as mind managers, but mull over it!

When Sri Krishna declared in Bhagwad Geeta to perform action without thinking about the fruit of action, it is the highest stage of mind management. The mind is nothing but a thought-flow. If you can control and manage it, you are a winner! While playing music, the greatest musicians get totally engrossed in it. They are not aware of the surroundings and their physical entity. And this is equally true for poets, painters and even scientists.

In my view, mind mgmt is central to all managements. Creative changes take place only when you manage your mind well. So better manage your minds than businesses! Great people changed the course of history through the technique of mind mgmt. Man will not change unless his thoughts are changed. I believe there are only 2 types of men who never change their thoughts, one dead and the other is a fool!! I know you’re not! Enjoy!

To top it all,

Dil toh dil hai, dil ki baate samajh sako toh behtar hai,
Duniya ki is bheed me khud ko alag rakho toh behtar hai..
Gaur karo toh apna mann bhi aksar baate karta hai,
Tum bhi isko tanhaai me kabhi suno toh behtar hai!

I appreciate the fact that you gave an outlook towards management that isn't cliche, but i beg to differ on the account that they are mutually exclusive. I believe no manager can become really successful unless he/she can manage his/her mind.

Talk about the different styles of leadership- autocratic, democratic, laissez faire etc., all of them have different styles of managing the way they would lead the people under them. The idea is to train your mind in a certain direction and also influence the minds of your followers.

The japanese concept of Kaizen, total quality management,or Motorola's six sigma(followed by even GE and dabbawalas) all these prinicples would've died on paper if not for mind being managed with adroitness.

Setting short term goals, having a long term vision, building a team, leading from the front, understanding the consumer mind, catching his eye all could never have been possible without mind management.

So in my opinion mind managers and material managers do not belong to tangential territories.

And by the way what about administration then? People like sardar patel who managed so well to conglomerate states to frame the union of India. What about the ngo's where profit is not the only criterion of management??

I believe mind management has been taken care of by most of the successful business honchos, else they wouldn't have become one in the first place.

Though i believe our thought process does differ on the topic, I really appreciate the fact that u wrecked up this topic and put it in lucid language. Did make it an enjoyable read which made me think.

samir, no doubt good work but you missed osho`s way to manage mind because aadmi dil haar jaata hai par hamesha matti hi kyun maari jaati hai....ka sunder vishleshan milta hai unhe padne me. yaan man chatur(not from 3 idiots) hai to usey kaise bargalaya jaye kyunki dil to khair behal hi jaata hai, seekha ja sakta hai aur management ka career hi market ka future hai so they stand of very use.
keep it up.

kk, thanks for your feedback buddy! well, as i mentioned in my second paragraph, that management techniques have revolutionized the whole world but i believe that mind management creates the base for all mgmt techniques. I completely agree to your point that mind management has been taken care of by most of the successful business honchos and in fact, i'd also regard them as mind managers. I never said that mind mgmt is a new concept and hence gave varied examples of mind managers from all ages. My point is that we fail to realise that basically we need to manage our minds, our thought-flow in the first place and then focus on other types of mgmt. I think almost all successful people have been good mind managers but we still do not comprehend that this is a kind of pre-requisite for success. So the need of the hour is to learn to manage our minds and then you can go on to manage anything and everything in this world!!

Good Evening bhai..
you doing a good job..

I agree to it completely.

Just one thing as above the annotation about the Mind Mgnt.,you have restricted the term..so its difficult fr me to understand it.Its like you have include only about one's thinking pattern..that's a segment about it...so if u can enumerate it further would be better to understand the term.

Well i really appreciate your work..
keep this up..!!

Well done Sameer!! A very complex concept, well organized n explained.. yes, as krishnakant said, the mind has been used properly by a few, but yet many and many more need to open up their minds.. And in some cases, people first need to realize that their mind is being managed by someone else or rather 'mis-managed'.
